FARE (Faith in Action for Racial Equity)

FARE continues to evolve as the group offers opportunities both for education about and engagement with the work of antiracism, and also actions that members of the MCC can take to help dismantle racism and white supremacy. ​​

Here's a few things we engaged recently:

Tours of Milton House Museum: The Milton House Museum is the only certified Underground Railroad site in Wisconsin open for tours.

Journey to Justice Bus and Solitary Confinement experience: We coordinated with the local MOSES chapter in partnership with the State WISDOM organization to bring the Solitary Confinement Bus, created by the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, to the MCC. There were tours of the bus in the parking lot, lunches provided, and group and panel discussions in the afternoon. MOSES Organizer James Morgan spoke and led a discussion around mass incarceration during Adult Ed. 

 

We continue to pursue "cross-pollination” with other MCC social justice groups, particularly the Immigration Support Team, feeling that this would benefit our work in these areas.

 

Born out of the work of updating Advent’s RIC statement and encouraged by MCC’s adoption of the Land Use Acknowledgment and budgetary support for a First Nations scholarship fund at Madison College, FARE also brought to the Leadership Team the idea of an MCC-wide racial justice/equity statement and budgetary support for some form of reparations.

We believe: Every human should have dignity, respect, and equity as they move through our society, without race being a factor that negatively impacts those. Let us put faith into action and work toward that.
